Owning a store is something I always wanted to do although
it never seemed to be a practical career choice. It all came to fruition on
our trip to Italy, final destination Milan. I could not get enough of Prada.
I visited every Prada boutique throughout this town to check out every
selection of shoes. I found that the various stores stocked various shades and
I wanted to make sure I chose the best ones. My husband, Mike, in the meantime
was about to lose his cool.
OK, I’m tired of going into every store, just get them if
you want them and meet me back at the hotel. Oops I thought I had gone too
far. Well I found the shoes I wanted and Mike’s response to me was you should
own a shoe store.
Back in Vero, I had a great job but the idea of owning a
store consumed me. I went to see a movie with my girlfriend, “Divine Secrets
of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood”. A lady seated next to me was admiring my Prada shoes
and this led to a conversation. I wish I would have known her name, I would
call and thank her. Need I remind you this never happens to me. She proceeded
to tell me that a store in the vicinity of where I would love a store had moved
and I took this to mean, FATE. You can bet the next morning I was on the phone
regarding the space.
I came up with a business plan, of course as many a business
plan goes, budgeted amounts were on the low end but that’s how most sales
people rope business partners in, right? Before long the lease was signed and
the store was being remodeled to bring new designer shoes to Vero Beach.
My husband and I have a blast owning a store aside from the
arguments and I regretfully must inform, he is always making valid statements.
We find that when we go out at night we can’t help but check out everyone’s
shoes. Freakish I know. Enjoy browsing the site created by my jack of all
trades husband, Mike.
